  34.      a)   New seat covers on sagging seats?
  35.      b)   New pedal pads and worn armrests?
  36.      c)   Water leaks or flooding signs under floor mats?
  37.      d)   Missing hardware (Door handles, knobs)
  38.      e)   Lights and signal operation
  39.      f)   All accessories (Radio, Air cond.[expensive repairs!],
  40.           Heater) operational?
  41.      g)   Windshield Wipers
  42. 9)   Belts and Hoses:
  43.      a)   Wear cracks or weak spots
  44.      b)   Check for stains on hose connections (indicates leaks)
  45. 10)  Battery:
  46.      a)   Low electrolyte level
  47.      b)   Corroded terminals 
  48.      c)   Cracked case
  49. 11)  Radiator:
  50.      a)   Corrosion or rust in the coolant
  51. 12)  Air Filter:
  52.      a)   Dirty air filter indicates lack of maintenance

  55. 13)  Spark Plug Wires:
  56.      a)   Cracks in wires
  57.      b)   Burned spots or wear
  58. 14)  Oil level:
  59.      a)   Low level indicates
  60.           [1]  Lack of maintenance

  62.           [3]  Possible leaks
  63.      b)   If oil on dipstick is
  64.           [1]  foamy or tan (indicating leakage of coolant into
  65.                oil)

  68.           DON'T BUY THE VEHICLE!!
  69. 15)  Automatic Transmission:
  70.      a)   Warm Transmission fluid should be full, cold should
  71.           appear about 1 pint low.
  72.      b)   Fluid should be bright, translucent red.
  73.      c)   Brown/Black fluid (especially if smells burned) says
  74.           transmission needs MAJOR repairs.
  75. 16)  Exhaust:  
  76.      a)   Blue smoke indicates excessive oil usage due to major
  77.           internal problems
  78.      b)   Black Smoke can indicate burned valves, or carburetor
  79.           problems (improper fuel mixture)
  80.      c)   Check exhaust system for leaks (They are expensive to
  81.           repair)
  82. 17)  Spark Plugs:
  83.      a)   Good plugs have light tan or grey deposit on electrode.

  85. If 2 or more items from 1-8 have problems, there has been poor
  86. maintenance, reconsider selection.  9-13 indicate lack of proper
  87. maintenance, but relatively inexpensive to repair.  If there is any
  88. problem in 14-17 FORGET IT you have a lemon.

  92. 1)   Engine Performance:
  93.      a)   Good accelerator response?
  94.      b)   Adequate power?
  95.      c)   Smooth acceleration through gears?
  96. 2)   Brakes:
  97.      a)   Brakes should give quick firm stops, no squealing,
  98.           pulling or fading.
  99. 3)   Steering:
  100.      a)   Sure control?
  101.      b)   Binding, harshness, or looseness, or wheel shimmy is
  102.           trouble
  103.      c)   Noise or vibration in steering wheel means trouble
  104. 4)   Clutch:
  105.      a)   Quick, smooth engagement in and through gears

  109. 5)   Manual Transmission:
  110.      a)   Smooth shifting?  Easy change of gears?
  111.      b)   Clashing, grinding, whining, or sticking in gear is
  112.           trouble.
  113. 6)   Automatic Transmission:
  114.      a)   Smooth rapid shifting?
  115.      b)   No noise, hesitation, or slipping should be present
  116.      c)   Transmission should not shift back and forth until needed
  117. 7)   Differential:
  118.      a)   Noise or thumps?
  119.      b)   External leakage?
  120. 8)   Driveshaft, U-Joints:
  121.      a)   Vibration and noise can mean driveshaft problems
  122.      b)   Clicking at low speed means worn U-Joints
  123. 9)   Suspension:
  124.      a)   If truck bounces at low speeds has weak shock absorbers.
  125.      b)   Clunks mean worn bushings or ball joints
  126. 10)  Frame:    
  127.      a)   Wet tires and drive short distance.
  128.           [1]  2 sets of treads is normal, 4 means frame is bent
  129.                by collision damage
  130.      b)   Also check by having someone follow to see if car appear
  131.           to travel in straight line or crooked.
